I had the delight of teaming up with the Social Media team at Patreon to bring Shannon Downey’s craft activism story to life.
A leader in the Craftivism movement as badasscrossstitch, Shannon has built a wide reaching community across the country using cross-stitching as tool of political engagement.
For this video, we wanted to stick to a a mixed-media look for consistency with Patreon’s other creator stories.
We worked with fabric textures, collage elements and cross-stitching effects to reflect Shannon’s own craft.
I started by putting together a "Radio Edit" mix to shorted the story to 90 seconds or less.
We then iterated on a storyboard to agree on which moments to highlight with animation.
After 3 revisions, we wrapped up with light sound design, and sent it over to Shannon.
